MemberA good first start to selecting a meeting date is for chapters to volunteer to host the meeting, and propose a location and date. Then council can select amongst those.
To facilitate Council's selection of the date and location of the 2017 GPCO Annual Meeting, here is a proposal:Locations: Carbondale or FriscoDates: Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 18, Feb. 25, or March 4. Alternate Dates: May 6, May 13 or May 20. If the annual meeting cannot be held on the scheduled date, due to weather or another reason, it will be held on this alternate date. Host Chapters: Two chapters will co-host the meeting; one chapter on the east side of the continental divide and one chapter on the west side of the continental divide.

MemberThis sounds interesting, but I'm a little hazy on how the co-hosting arrangement would work. Would we have video communication between the two locations?

MemberI'm suggesting the meeting be held in just one location; either Carbondale or Frisco. We have not had a state meeting west of Denver since 2012.There is no local chapter in either location so preparing for the meeting (locating and reserving a meeting room, researching lodging, setting up the meeting space and equipment, arranging for food, etc.) will take some effort and possibly a trip or two to the site prior to the meeting. There are benefits to be derived from having two chapters cooperately host the meeting. Sharing the workload. Broadening participation. Resilience, in case one of the host chapters cannot perform. Most important, most chapters have taken sides in the co-chair wars; it is not clear that any one chapter can be trusted to be fair.

MemberAh! Now maybe I understand. You suggest those two locations because they are in regions that have not recently had meetings, but we need two other chapters to make the arrangements because those cities have no chapters?Yes, this would require several trips to whichever location is chosen, but perhaps there are individual Greens in those areas who could help with the planning.Good idea about having two chapters to carry the load. Are the sides in the co-chair war geographically defined? Is that why you specified one host chapter from each side of the continental divide?

No. Historically, it has been difficult for western slope chapters to participate fully in state party affairs. Several western counties that perform well for Green candidates do not have local chapters yet. The co-hosting suggestion is an affirmative action to foster cooperation, east and west.

MemberThank you for the clarification. I will inform the Poudre Valley chapter that this proposal has been floated. I think we will have time at our meeting next Wednesday to discuss the proposal itself and whether we might want to volunteer to co-host if the council decides to go ahead with the idea.

MemberCouncil,Please help select a date and location for the 2017 annual meeting.I just created a poll (at the top of this topic) with all the suggested 2017 GPCO Annual Meeting dates and locations. The poll will be open for voting until Dec. 20 at about 4:00 pm.Check as many dates and locations as are acceptable to you.Thank you, Harry

MemberHarry, your poll is closing before the Poudre Valley chapter meets to discuss the topic.

MemberJudy, Council members typically need to act between chapter meetings. The standard time period for agreeing to a proposal is 7 days. You and the other Poudre Valley representatives could call or email your active members this weekend about their date and location preferences.

MemberI have informed them of the details of the proposal, but I would prefer to discuss it as a group before responding. We have a core of very bright, informed, and engaged people in the Poudre Valley chapter and I have found that we usually make excellent decisions if we put something up for discussion and give everybody time to ask questions and bat around ideas and opinions. I will back to the hilt a decision that we have made with everybody present and participating in a full exchange of views. That's why I want to wait until we have a real meeting. Partial participation and limited exchange of ideas are a recipe for a bad decision. There are several significant components in your proposal, and I want to be sure we make the best decision we can make.

MemberThanks for writing, Judy. I appreciate the desire to discuss the 2017 Annual Meeting date with your chapter. Other chapters probably want to do the same. I will extend the time period for responses by a month; to January 20, 2017. That will give every chapter a chance to meet and discuss the timing and location of the annual meeting. The dates in February I originally suggested will no longer be possible. I figure council should allow at least six weeks from reaching agreement on the date and location of the meeting until the meeting itself, for meeting preparations. If council could agree by January 20, an annual meeting on March 4 may still be possible. So, Happy New Year! We have all earned a nice vacation, in the aftermath of this election season.

MemberHarry, thank you for extending the deadline.

MemberThe poll in this topic is closed now. Three people, including myself, took the poll. This is not enough response to draw any conclusions. However, there has been significant discussion of the 2017 Annual Meeting date and location in the topic History of GPCO Annual Meeting Dates and Locations http://gpco.fullydefiant.com/forum/index.php?topic=308.0Feedback from that discussion is:Location: Preference is for a location with an active chapter. Grand Junction was suggested as a western slope location with a new chapter.Date: Strong preference is for May. Snow was a concern for March and April.Transition of Officers: Ideas for transitioning gradually from current party officers to new officers to satisfy Andrea Merida's claim to a 24-month term were discussed, without a conclusion.
