MemberThe Adams-Jeffco Greens have created a series of flyers, two sided, that we would like to print and distribute at common places like libraries. The flyers have contact info, a catchy slogan and an appeal to vote green party, and info about our mointjhly meetings. We ahve one for each of the 10 hey values, but for now would like to make only one to keep printing costs down. An example is attached. The other versions can be included in e-mails, or if successful we may want to print other versions later. This proposal is to approve the cost of printing a batch of 500 of them. The non-profit cost for 500 flyers on 2-sided 30# paper is $585 at Fed-X (we will need a copy of the Federal tax ID to get the non-profit rate).

MemberI do love the flier's basic design. Perhaps it would be beneficial for the locals to have access to them and to print them as needed locally? This might allow for a more effective distribution. After all, we would still have to get fliers to each local after having them all printed. If we would like to get the word out about the Greens and we are willing to spend that high a percentage of our state funds, it may be wiser to come together and determine what medium would be most effective. I recently talked to independent radio station in Boulder and Fort Collins about airtime, and I've made some inroads to cannabis-oriented Internet radio as well. Radio is a pretty inexpensive medium to get into, reaches a large audience, and can be done with little overhead. What do you think about both ideas? 1. Distribute the filer files to locals so they can be printed and posted in their areas as needed. 2. Investigating an advertising investment for our Greens, perhaps Independent radio or Internet radio?

MemberThe intent of this flyer is to raise awareness of and increase attandance at the Adams-Jeffco meetings and it has informatin specific to A-J. At the same time we are promoting the Colorado Green Party and the National Green Party. Since we do not have a Treasurer (nor sufficient meeting attendees to have a volunteer for that position), we are required to run all finances through the state party (at least under the current Secretary of State). We don't know the state finances, so if the cost is too high, we could start with a lesser number of flyers. If other locals are interested in the same flyers (edited for their local) we would be happy to share the template. We have been getting KGNU radio spots announcing our meetings, but so far no attendees that I'm aware of have resulted from that effort. I'm sure the Greens in gerneral are getting more exposure from the radio spots, however we are looking for ways to reach our locals and attract new local members.Michael HaugheyAdams-Jeffco Chairperson

MemberWe have a price now from Sir Speedy, which is $203.50 for 500 folded on 60# paper, $266 for 750, and $121 for 250. Don't know if that includes tax. Way better pricing. Office Max was higher than Fed-X Kinkos.Would appreciate a quick response to this proposal since the elections are coming up soon. 🙂 Thanks,Michael HaugheyA-J Greens Chairperson

MemberMichael,It is great to see this kind of energy from a local. This flyer looks good; it has a lot of information that is important for people looking to get involved. I do have two seporate concerns regarding this proposal.
- The cost may be a little high. Before voting on any proposal like this, I would want to know how much money the state party has on hand. Would there be enough money available to provide this type of support to every local and still have money left over? I may still support it even if there isn't enough money for each local to do something similar, but I would want to know how this Adams/Jeffco flyer campaign will benefit other locals and the state party as a whole. There also may be ways to lower the cost. A black and white design and/or a quarter sheet flyer would significantly reduce costs.
- The second concern is that the URLs that are listed for the Ten Key Values and the Platform are not correct because they are for the Greens/Green Party USA instead of the the Green Party of the United States. The Green Party of Colorado is not affiliated with the Greens/Green Party USA. As I understand, this is an older and mostly defunct organization that the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) splintered off from in 2000. The correct URLs for the Ten Key Values and Platform are http://www.gp.org/committees/platform/2012/ten-key-values.php and http://www.gp.org/committees/platform/2012/ respectively.
Let me know what you think of these concerns. Is there someone that knows how much money the GPCO has on hand?

MemberHi Ryan,Thanks for the response. Who knew there were two Green Party's! I took a qiuick look and the 10 key values appear very similar, except for being in a different order and a few (insignificant?) differences in wording. Changing the link is easy. Re-doing the 10KVs would take time that I don't have at the moment. Maybe someone can volunteer to help? It took 4 months to get this far and now we are one month away from the election. OR - we can correct the links and let the 10KVs be imperfect for this first printing. I think we need the full two-side full page to convey the necessary info and color to look at least somewhat professional. Did you see the new pricing we got from Sir Speedy? I would also like to know how this compares to the available budget and certainly don't want to spend too much on one initiative. I tried to address how other chapters could use the same flyer (in my replies to Bill) - I can send the templates or post them. Each chapter would need to edit their contact web address and change the title to their chapter name. We also have a long list of "slogan" ideas that we can share and each group can pick their favorite or come up with new ones. Our basic intent, in addition to attracting more attendees to our monthly meetings, is to create sound bite messages and marketing slogans that (AJ Greens, and other Greens) can use to more effectively promote our value as a political party. We have found that almost (but not quite) the entire general public knows nothing about the Green Party. Thanks, 🙂Michael HaugheyAJ Greens Chairperson

MemberSome other things to keep in mind on this project:- the Adams-Jefferson Greens donate to the state party in part because we can not donate to our selves with no treasurer. I for one also donate on a recurring basis to national which is supposed to return a portion of that to the state party. So, our local chapter members do feel that some return from the state party for this type of expense is reasonable. (though I believe we have in general been donating more to individual candidate campaigns in recent months and even the last couple years so our donations to the state may be a bit down at the moment)- We could print in black and white instead of color to stay within a budget. I could reformat the flyer as a half page flyer (double sided) at some point to reduce expenses if the chapter agrees to it. I don't have time to do it this week. I would have time in November.Tanya

MemberGood point on the chapter donations. One of our regular attendees has donated $100 and would like that to go to this project. The color and size were agreed upon at the chapter meeting, so I would not want to change that without discussion at a future meeting. The full size could be folded, but same print size, and that would also require re-formatting so that it reads correctly on the cover and when opened. For marketing appeal, I think color is needed.Michael HaugheyAJ Greens Chairperson

MemberThe cost seems much more reasonable at around $200. I've inquired about the state books and we'll see where we stand and how this impacts that balance. It would be a great gesture to make the flier source files available through the state to local chapters who may be interested in changing them for local use. 🙂 And thank you for putting them together. I particularly like the "billionaires got you down?" and the color scheme, which is a little like the state website and the green is kind a of a "zinger" color.

MemberI agree the new price is much more palatable.Once (if) we get approval to proceed, I can update the flyers (with the new links etc) andn then post the updated flyer templates along with a checklist of what to change for each Chapter who is interested in uising them andn a list of t he "slogans we came up with so far. (For example, based on the "old" Green Party 10 key values, here is another of our favorites: Value 2: "Like this planet? Vote Green Party" Thanks,Michael HaugheyAJ Greens Chairperson

MemberBill,If Michael wants this voted on, can you submit this to proposal Agreement Seeking? Time is running out before the election.

MemberYes,We would like to get as many out before the election as we can, and time is very, very short. I don't have posting access to the propossal or agreement seeking parts of the forum, so assuming that only Bill can do that at this time. Thanks,Michael
