MemberAs a member of The Council, I would like to initiate the planning of the the Colorado Green Party Nominating Convention. We must conduct this convention by April 14th 2012 to comply with state law. “Last day to hold major/minor party assemblies. (No later than 73 days before the Primary Election)(http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/elections/docs/2012ElectionCalendar.pdf)”.”We also have to consider the GPCO bylaws that require "Candidates seeking the nomination of the Green Party of Colorado for any office shall announce their candidacy by notifying either a state co-chair (for federal or state office) or the chair/co-chair of their local Green group (for county or local office) no later than forty-five days before the nominating convention. (4.5.2.)"I would like to thank Gary Swing for bringing these deadlines to our attention at the December Denver Greens meeting. Although the council has been inactive, the moratorium on council activity expired a long time ago. The forums are ready to use but a full transition may take some time. We don't have any time to lose in planning this meeting. I am posting this message both on the Council Forum and on the old Council Listserv. I hope that we can utilize the forum communicate about the planning of the conference and submit a proposal to be voted on using the old listserv. I hope that we can one day use the forum for voting as well, but I don't wan't to exclude anyone from the vote and I know some may not have started using the forum yet. Let's begin the conversation about planning the Nominating Convention.

MemberKevin Started a great topic about the location of the Convention http://gpco.fullydefiant.com/forum/index.php?topic=16.0. The topic is posted on the public board so that non-council members can provide input.

GuestAt the last state meeting it was suggested that we find a location for the next meeting that was somewhere between the front range and the western slope that wouldn't be such a long commute for locals like Southwest and San Miguel. A location in Glenwood Springs might be a good idea as it is a straight shot down I-70 for front rangers and more doable for the western locals. I remember speaking with someone at the YMCA in Glenwood the year we held the meeting in Carbondale and they sounded receptive to working with the Green Party. Or possibly a location in another I-70 town like Breckenridge or Vail might work. Is it possible to get all of our business taken care of in one day? Maybe we could have the meeting go a bit later and limit the lunch break to an hour.Kevin

Membershucks, i'm afraid we are not moving forward on this issue and it's crucial. the san miguel greens have offered to host the convention on April 14th in Telluride. a number of expressed a desire not to travel to our half of the state because of the distance and uncertain weather — things those of us who have to travel to the front range for green meetings have to deal with regularly.however, if the state party is not going to accept the san miguel greens offer, then another chapter needs to make an offer to host it somewhere else. and soon...finally, we do not seem to be getting folks to participate on this forum. perhaps we need to go back to the listserve system that we had in place, since this experiment with technology does not appear to be working.artg
