MemberI think its just so people can read through the discussion naturally.. If there are new posts to a thread, there is a “New” link next to the thread name which, if clicked, takes the reader to the latest posts on the thread. I'm not sure if this option can be changed, but I'm not particularly shy about trying something different if its possible. 🙂

Memberi think jonesy suggested we move the Restructuring discussion to the Restructuring Task Force and put it under Committees & Working Group, rather than under General Discussion.also, i see that beneath the comments that go from first to most recent is a Topics Summary that goes from most recent to oldest. i'm wondering if this is the best way to structure this. maybe the topic summary should be first, with most recent to oldest listed and then the place to comment next????having the topic summary first would allow folks to read what others have done, but they could reply to the posts right after that. if some things can't be changed, just let us know, bill. we're all learning here.

MemberHi everyone! I've moved the RTF discussion to the Committee Board. Also, I have researched the issues about oldest or newest threads being displayed first. This is an individual option. 🙂 For me, I am used to seeing the oldest stuff at the top. For those interested in seeing the newest posts first, there is an option in your profile preferences that will make this a reality: To show the most recent posts at the top: 1. Click on Profile to see your Summary page, revealing three menu options: Profile Info, Modify Profile, and Actions.2. Under the Modify Profile menu, select Look and Layout3. Choose the option "Show most recent posts at the top."(taken from http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=37)This information has been copied to a thread under the Using the Forum.

MemberThis posting style argument is a heated discussion in many circles. Top-posting (newest messages at the top) is good for things like a Facebook wall where just the newest stuff is read instead of all posts. Bottom-posting (oldest messages at the top) is best when the entire conversation should be read. In the case of this forum, I feel bottom posting is best because it makes it easier for people to follow the whole discussion. A classic example of why bottom-posting is best in many situations is:
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?A: Top-posting.Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail?
Bill, thank you for providing a solution that allows people to customize this based on their preference.

MemberDo we have the ability to post documents? At the State meeting we ran out oftime for discussion of platform proposals and agreed to move a discussion to the forum. Since it was an open meeting, perhaps the documents should be on a general site (does that exist?) and then voting moved to the council page.

Thanks for these directions. I like having the last news first because I've been sitting at this computer all day & want to get to the most important and recent posts right away. I haven't seen any emails to direct me to the forum, but I might need to look into whether or not that is a selection. On the heals of thanks to Bill for posting the directions for this option, thanks to for connecting with Boulder & the 4-20 too. Between your communication, Gary Swings, and the AJ chapter's agenda, I feel more connected.
