Hey Members of Council,I received the newest list of registered voters for my county from Co-chair Bill Bartlett.  This data will be incredibly useful for party building and get out the vote campaigns.  The issue with the list is that it is every registered voter including Democrats, Republicans, etc; rather than just Greens.  I was able to easily filter out the registered Greens from this massive document.  Here is How

    • First, close as many running applications on your computer as possible.  This is a huge list and requires a lot of RAM to open.  It may be a little slower than what you are used to.
    • Open the fil Excel file.
    • Scroll horizontally to the right until you see the Column labeled "Party".  This is the

    AK column.

  • select all items in this column by clicking the column header (that is the grey button just above the first cell).
  • From the menu bar, go to Data>Filter.  This should create a drop down menu on the column that you selected.
  • Using this menu, click the check boxes so that only "GRN" is selected.  This should hide all other options.
  • Now only the GRN options show up, but the numbering of the old row headers is retained.
  • To fix the row header numbering, copy the date to a new document.
  • Select all cells by hitting ctrl/cmd a.  (Windows uses the control key, Macs use the command key).
  • All data should be selected.  It should look highlighted.
  • With the data selected, copy it by hitting ctrl/cmd C, or by going to Edit>Copy.
  • Create a new document by going to File>New Workbook (ctrl/cmd N).
  • While in this new document, hit ctrl/cmd V, or go to Edit>Paste.
  • You should now see a document with only the registered Greens, and with the proper row numbering.
  • Save this document.
