I would like to suggest that we start discussion/polling on where and when to host the next state meeting.  Since it will be a nominating convention we need to hold it earlier this year.At the last meeting it was suggested that we choose a more central location that isn't so far away from the Southwest and Mesa County chapters.  I think Glenwood Springs was suggested.  That would be fine with me.  Any other suggestions?Kevin Alumbaugh

Thanks for the post Kevin!! I've moved your reply here and created a new topic, complete with a poll and some alternative locations that can be voted upon. This poll have been setup to allow members to cast two changeable votes.  We can put a day limit on the vote when the time draws near to the point where we have to make a decision.  This is an example of how we can see how people stand on an issue DURING discussion, as we work as a group toward a consensus.  I encourage people to add new topics as they see fit, in the appropriate boards, to begin conversation. Blessings, Bill B.

well, i would like to volunteer southwest colorado for our next convention. i haven't talked to anyone else yet. but as the organizer for an annual mushroom festival in telluride (over 30 years now), i think (depending on the times we choose), we could get very favorable rates in telluride for shared condos in the spring off-season. and i have several possible halls i might rent.those of us in the four corners area of the western slope -- southwest (cortez) and san miguel chapters -- have gone to the front range several times now. and i don't think the san miguel chapter has had a chance to host a meeting in recent memory (or ever -- john w, do you recall us hosting anything?)art goodtimesnorwood

(Art, I don't think the Southwest area has ever hosted a State Greens get-together)I'll chat with Art on this privately but I'm proud of the Green-flavored work our area has accomplished over the past few decades and would be pleased as punch to show this off to a gathering of Colorado Greens. That being said, I'm currently talking with my extended family in New York about the possibility of being a full-time caregiver for my ailing grandfather (93!) on Long Island, which would require me to be in NY for the next 4-6 months. So I'll have to hold off on any commitment to the GP until I get that straightened out.

I am up for Grand Junction or Glenwood Springs or the San Miguel County for the state meeting. My family members in Ouray County could probably offer 2-4 rooms for Greens to stay at. Tanya

Bill, Can we add new locations to your poll? Tanya

Well it is a bit hard for me to comment because I may need more facts in my analyzation.  However I will give my thoughts & then others can speak to me on additional perspectives they think I may need to consider with more weight.  What Kevin said about Glenwood or Veil sounds good since it would be easiest for so many groups.  Although I also think if there are candidates running for the Senate, they may need the most support & then any that might be running for Congress.  We in the Green Party do not pour out the money, but we could try to be accommodating with meeting locations and laboring for a day in some way.  If there is no one running for offices, it might also be a consideration as to which groups have the most active members and would more green party participants come if held at a central place like Glennwood Spr. or Veil as compared to the area were the largest number of active members reside.  It would be nice to have some comments on these statements before I vote.

I've added some new options to the poll, as requested by Tanya. 🙂 For my part, it seems that a central location would be most beneficial to the group as a whole.  Kind of a bummer, since I've been wanting a reason to get down to Telluride.  🙂 Bill B.

I'm OK with somewhere West or Southwest.  Grand Junction seems central and easy to get to, plus reasonable hotel rates.

It feels like we are moving very slowly, what with the 60-day suspension of council business (which officially ended last Summer), changeover to a forum that has not taken hold yet, Restructuring that has not advanced quickly, holiday hangover, etc.But here's a splash of cold water: if we are to legally nominate any candidates - for county commissioner, state reps, congress, President, etc - we MUST hold our nominating convention by April 14, 2012 at the latest. Other important deadlines are tied to the date of the convention: candidates must declare to their local party or state co-chairs 45 days before the convention; candidates must be registered green at least two months prior to nomination and cannot have been in another party six months prior to nomination. So, if we hold the convention on 4/14/12, people must already not be in another party, and independents or unregistered folks would need to register Green by 2/14/12 , and announce at the latest by 2/29/12 - a few weeks away! Those dates are even sooner if we hold the convention prior to the last possible legal date.I see that only seven people have voted so far in the forum on where to have the meeting. Glenwood Springs is winning, likely for its central location. The difficulty of course is we have no local there making it harder to rent or find a place, look into lodging etc. Art suggested San Miguel - I do not see anyone else jumping at that chance, but is the only solid offer so far. In the past we have alternated Front Range and Western Slope locales, and it is true our western slope folks have been schlepping to our part of the state for many years. We have also often held the convention/meeting where we have a new group, in order to help get them some publicity, so that would argue for Colorado Springs. I can see the value of several of these options, but my preference is we make a decision soon, put the info out on our website, put out a call for candidates, and hold the convention so we meet the legal deadlines to field candidates. We are already getting inquiries from interested folks and there is nothing we can tell them except...we don't know yet.I am posting this to the forum and to the discussion and council lists in order to accelerate our decision-making. Since we have not come up with a restructuring proposal, we need to use our old method - a proposal to the council list - to make a proposal and come to an agreement on where/when to hold the convention. Can we please talk this over quickly and efficiently, and come to a decision in the next 10 days at the outside? Thanks.Eric FriedGPCO Secretary

Tom and I thought Vail might be somewhat centrally located and we could commit to going there.  However where ever it is decided on we will be delighted to make arrangements to attend.  I thought some of the criteria for consideration in choosing the location could be the following:-A location close to any candidates running for congress or senate.  We need new senators since Colo. Senators Bennet & Udall who voted for the NDAA, especially after Udall spent an hour on the senate floor telling how bad the bill is and then voted for it.  On a side note to this issue, it is too bad we do not have some seminars from Bob Kinsey that would encourage others to run.  Then the next criteria might be which Green chapters have the most members that would attend the conventionor  - which location would result in the most attendees attending the convention. Finally, of course, making it easier for those who have already done the most traveling in the past would be a good thing.

As I have said on email, I think I would prefer Grand Junction or Glenwood as a reasonably accessible location for all the Chapters.  I know we have no active chapters in either place but perhaps we could find some un attached Greens from The Secretary of State's list to work with to put together a meeting place and time.At last Denver's meeting we talked either March 31 or April 14 as a date.  Is April 14 too late to get anything on the State Primary Ballot.  It seems to me that we should try to get all the announced Green candidates for President on the Primary Ballot if that is possible.  This could instruct our delegates to Baltimore giving them a proportional repesentation based on results and include all State Greens in the process.

It looks at though Glenwood Springs is getting the nod on this, which is ok though I do favor Telluride.  Individually, we need to encourage other council members to go ahead and vote so that we can expedite this process.  I think that Bob's suggestion to target March 31 as a meeting date is a good idea.  Movement toward setting a date is also needed so that we can plan accordingly. Thanks for the efforts folks.Tim H  - SW Greens

Again — do we have names of Registered Greens in Grand Junction?  Or Montrose?  Or Glenwood that we could involve in meeting planning?  I should think everyone might welcome a chance to soak in the pool after the meeting. The Library in Glenwood has a nice meeting space.  Maybe we could reserve it. 😀
