I got an email today from MoveOn about a new campaign to get MoveOn members to run for local office (http://candidateproject.org/recruitment/campaigns/moveon/).  They are partnering with an organization called the Candidate Project which appears to be run by an organization called the New Organizing Institute.  I have never heard of the Candidate Project or the New Organizing Institute before today.  I know many Colorado Greens don't like MoveOn, but I this campaign caught my eye because it really resembles what we are trying to do as Greens.  The Candidate Project provides a resource page for candidates (http://candidateproject.org/cms/resources/).  Perhaps it could be a good resource for Greens running for office in Colorado.  Does anyone know anything about the New Organizing Institute?  Any thoughts on MoveOn running a campaign like this?

I got the same e-mail and have the same question, in addition to wondering what is the source of their funding (if any).I also wonder if the Greens could organize a similar project for Greens.Michael HaugheyA-J Greens

While I haven't had time to check out the resource deeply, it does seem like something we can use to help find and support Green candidates.  I saw something similar earlier this year but it was geared toward potential Tea Party candidates. 🙂

People don't like MoveON because it was a front for the Obama campaign prior to his 2008 election.  The Colorado Chapter disavowed that role even before the election in 2010.  It seems to be again a piece of the Obama campaign nationally.    I know nothing about the other organizations.
