Our bylaws indicate we could host this as a nominating convention, and leave the annual meeting for another time.  The only reason we have to hold this convention now is due to the restrictions from the SoS for getting candidates on the ballot.  The way this language reads indicates to me that we could hold separate events to nominate these candidates, and another one later to do our annual party activities, such as nominating our state officers and other party activities. Benefits include: - maintaining a focus on candidates and the vetting process, rather than party administration. - inviting the public and creating a fundraising and outreach opportunity- hosting an annual meeting after elections that can focus more on party goalsDrawbacks to making the change: - having to conduct another meeting later this year for our party activities- some chapters may have issues coming to both meetings, forcing them to decide which is more important for representatives to attendHere is the related Bylaw: 4.1 State meetings will be held yearly or more frequently at a location agreedupon by the members at the previous meeting, or by a special call of the Council at its discretion. Nominating conventions and meetings to elect state officers must be announced by the Secretary in a newspaper of statewide circulation 15 days before the meeting. State meetings are those where party business is conducted. The state nominating convention is held in even number years — every two years for the purpose of nominating candidates for public office in Colorado; and every four years for conducting the presidential preference process and selecting delegates to the Green Party of the United States national convention.

I support amending bylaws to support nominating process.  I believe we also discussed at last year's meeting to amend the bylaws to enable us to make notification via electronic media, not limited to newspaper.  Statewide electronic media I believe should/would include GPOC web, facebook, forum, and colorado greens email.

I have answered the poll in favor of combining nominations and party business. My impression is that locals have a hard time getting reps to a single yearly meeting, let alone two. Could a single meeting with two distinct tasks be held over a long weekend – say, Friday night to Sunday afternoon? Do we have any three-day weekends coming up in the required timeframe?Peace,Steve

I agree that it is too difficult for many locals to attend one meeting let alone two.  My recollection of nominating conventions is that the other business items are covered as quickly as possible during the morning session and the afternoon session is dedicate entirely to the vetting/Q&A of candidates, and nominating process.  If there are other items that we can't cover in the morning session then maybe we could mop up afterwards via state council proposals.Kevin AlumbaughGreater Boulder Green Party

Thank you everyone for your comments.  I looks like this is a close vote here.  The executive committee (co-chairs, treasurer, and secretary) met briefly via telephone this week to discuss the convention.  The close vote reflects the committee's stand on this issue.  We see the need to enable as many Green chapters as possible t make the annual and nominating conventions, but at the same time realize that holding them both at once limits the functionality of both. In summary, March 22 will be both an annual meeting and a nominating convention.  In the long run, there are some changes that need to be made to increase party effectiveness and planning abilities.  I'll post more about his later when I have time.

The agenda for this meeting needs to include selection of delegates to the National Convention or else anyone who chooses to attend that meeting will have not vote in National matters.  I am hoping to attend this year again but can't be certain.  I haven't heard much from the other national delegates and have yet to figure out how to function in this capacity.  I don't appear to be receiving any information from them even though I communicated with them.  We have a need to clarify the Non Violent value as it relates to Gun Violence and Gun Control legislation.
