Basic Info:Date proposed: September 28, 2016Name of the sponsors: Bill Bartlett, Joseph Scardetta2. Title: Recognition of Platte Valley Green Party 3. Text of the actual proposal:The Green Party of Colorado welcomes the Platte Valley Green Party as our newest chapter.  As of September 7, 2016, the chapter boasts 5 members, including 4 voting members with dues paid.  4. Background: Previous incarnations of the Weld County Green Party (or the Greeley Greens) have largely been based in student activity, and haven't found a solid base in the community outside the local college. Interim leadership positions will be held by Bill Bartlett and Joesph Scardetta, with chapter elections to be held after November 4th. 5. Justification/Goals:  Weld County has more fracking wells than any other, an estimated 20,000 wells.  Income from the oil and gas in the county is approximately 50% of revenue.  This chapter will help lead our county away from economic dependence on fossil fuels and farm animal concentration camps, and into a future of Green sustainability. When the Platter River flooded the valley in 2013, it was a example of climate emergency right here in our county.  Naming the new chapter after the Platte River and the Valley serves as a reminder of the natural resources we seek to honor and protect. The Mission of the Platte Valley Greens: "The Platte Valley Green Party is an organization whose mission is to participate in the local electoral politics of Weld County and the surrounding unaffiliated Platte Valley region, to educate and register voters, encourage and partake in direct action for Green causes, support party growth, form coalitions with like-minded organizations, and participate in other nonviolent activities that promote the Green vision as defined by the Ten Key Values of the United States Green Party." 6. Pros and Cons:  Weld County is notoriously underfunded by the DNC, and many GOP candidates have little opposition.  Concerned about fracking abound, yet citizens haven't been able to rely on the DNC for a plan to remove the county's dependence on the oil and gas industry.  The Greens can find a place in the gap, particularly in non-partisan elections. 7.  Alternatives to the proposal: Take no action, allow the chapter to remain unaffiliated. 8.  References: Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2013/12/04/weld-county-colorado-ground-zero-in-the-anti-fracking-battle/Bylaws, Green Party of Colorado: http://coloradogreenparty.org/about/bylaws/Bylaws, Platte Valley Green Party: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B570mEnJIhJOazJOeHVsTnNZdms/view?usp=sharing

AGREE.  Great mission statement to address fracking and be the spokesparty for anti-fracktivists!  I'm sure you're aware that Jared Polis has land in Weld County and got an injunction against a fracking well near his property.  Kevin AlumbaughGreater Boulder Green Party

Apologies for my late response, but this proposal has met quorum and passed within the agreement seeking time frame.
