Does anyone have any specific changes they would like to see in the bylaws?  Some possibilities include: Changes in the number of mandatory meetings, and where they take placeChanges in the ways in which the party determines expenses and the minimum expenses allowed without council approvalRespond with your own ideas, nothing sticks to the wall at this point, everything in the open just so we can have a list.

i think it's good to start collecting bylaw change ideas, but i think we need to marry form to function. and so we need to discuss functions first and come to some kind of agreement on functions before we craft a structure that fits best the functions we've identified.still, here's a few bylaw changes i'd advocate for when we get to that phase:majority voting in most situationsmodified robert's rules instead of agreement seeking (motion, second, discussion, vote)overhaul of bylaws to simplify and put only broad general provisions into bylawsmove many bylaw provisions into a procedures & guidelines document

I have reviewed the bylaws and didn't find any particular places where it could be simplified, except perhaps with some of the voting procedures.  Do you have an example? As to fitting form to function, I would support adding at least two state representatives to the roster: public relations and membership.  The co-chairs would then be responsible for the management of the secretary, treasurer, PR, and membership officers.  A procedures and guidelines would be excellent to instate standards of calling current members, finding and assigning new members, fundraising...  need to brainstorm that aspect more, but in essence there needs to be a set of procedures that can be followed to attain specific purposes, tied to each officer's position.  Each procedure needs a feedback loop and control mechanism to ensure that corrections can be made when difficulties are encountered. Generating these procedures is dependent on the results we want from the state party.

bill, i thought i was suggesting that we may be premature in changing bylaws when we haven't discussed what form the state party ought to take. and i gave several examples of areas of change...but why not post the bylaws here on the site, so we can all review them together, if you want to start working on that now...

adding more officers to an organization that is having trouble even operating seems counter-productive at this time. yes, in time. i think allowing for that possibility. but i though we were streamlining, not bulking on organizaton?

i think we need to break up this thread into more discrete topics. i find that having multiple ideas in a post makes for very difficult replies. and too long of posts.we have a procedures and guideline document -- we need to possibly expand it, as you are calling for, or simplify it, which is my goal...but all good thoughts for discussion...
