There has been discussion of this issue on the National Committee website and it seems to come down to this.    Lots of registered Greens are probably going to re-register as Democrats to be eligible to vote in the Democratic Primary next year.  They will probably contribute to Bernie's campaign efforts up through then.    Bernie is pledged to support whomever wins.  This will weaken the Green Party nationally and in Colorado in my opinion but “HOPE” that the Democratic party will be changed for the better and move to the “LEFT” springs eternal among some Progressive leaning folks, given that our system is locked in a two party duopoly. On the National list it has been pointed out that the Populists merged with the Democrats in 1911 and onward but got kicked in the pants over time.  Like screwed. There are significant Jill Stein vs. Bernie issues, not the least being her stand on military aid to Israel and Bernie's blind spot here.    I believe as most people on the National Committee do that it would betray the work of the Green Party builders to in anyway commit the good name of the Green Party and its meager resources to support of Bernie.    And we should probably know that the corporate Dems will fight Bernie and win leaving those Greens without representation in the Democratic Party.  They will or may probably come back Green.    We can wish them well in their Quixotic effort but we have already said that playing the two party game is deadly to a healthy democracy and a healthy planet.    Lets keep it clear.  The Green Party operates out of a different narrative about the past and future of our country, and state.  We believe that narrative to be true.

ThisBernie Sanders thing is interesting and a bit confusing to me and it will be for many Greens who have supported Bernie in Vermont for instance.  We need to have a strategy here.  Ifind that Sanders (Independent from Vermont and actually a democraticsocialist who ran as such to be Mayor of Burlington) represents my ownpolicy choices in National Affairs in about 85 % (guesstimate wise) andabout 70% in foreign policy(I think he is really weak on the Israel/Palestine issue and its direct connection to fueling Wahabism in the Middle East.) This is way above any other US Senatorwith perhaps the exception now of Elizabeth Warren) They are on thesame pages as Greens on many issues. The Democratic Party powers(DLC) willprobably reject Bernie throughout the nomination process just as theyrejected Mike Miles in Colorado (I think this selection process is dominated by the Law Firm of Bernstein etc)  and snookered their choice (Ken Salazar) as "more electable".  DLC always functioned with the McGovern/Dukakis ("lessonslearned") model that you cannot put someone in nomination who can be easily out monied and out propagandized by the Rovian demogogues.  Trouble is that the Green agenda/ Green Narrative re: how we can address our system's destructive greed  and dishonesty cannot be championed and will not be fundedby capitalism-- sold to the American Voting Public as the only system that can provide them with "prosperity/happiness", regardless of whether that means jobs driving trains to Buchenwald (I apply this metaphor to people who design and build nuclear weapons, or any modern weaponry,  favor selling it to Israel, or drill for tar sands oil and deny climate change)..You are right to claim that the Green Party platform is way different from and comes from a different narrative about what is going on than the Republocrat one.    And I would argue that Jill Stein has ten times the guts to stand for that platform than Sanders or Warren.    The question is why her campaign in 2012 and perhaps even now is not capturing the public attention and enlisting their support to "occupy the vote".    Is this another Obama moment where hope springs eternal that the Democrats would restore their honor?  I suspect at St. Louis we will do a lot of thinking about this or hope so instead of fussing about internal grudges and by-laws and such.

great idea.  I would serve as well.  But I really think that a Colorado Green Party Platform on all issues would free up locals and candidates to issue statements on current events and  hold up that platform as it relates to them (including co-sponsoring events like the one you requested in early April re: $15/hr.

I agree that we should not waste time on a bill that failed in the Senate, but I see no reason CGP should shrink from c0- sponsoring rallys around the issue of $15 an hour or any similar efforts to show public support of the general concept  of a major increase in minimum wage.  There shouldn' t need to be  a lot of discussion and I don't think Harry should even have had to ask if it was OK.    Somehow we have got to get a quicker response out on these major Occupy issues.

I forgot to say that I would volunteer to staff the booth one day.  Who is making the plan for the this?  Anybody going to step up?  Its hard to do from Colorado Springs.

Thanks Andrea for keeping us up to date.  I think that rather than support a particular bill we should support the $15 movement and the local government movement indicating our call for candidates who support the same. Of course we support the bill for local control (grass roots democracy)!  And thus the colorado green party can testify and support and endorse that bill.
