MemberI think everyone should listen to the teleconference for themselves. Bill was trying to address a preemptive point Andrea made about whether this issue had been made public or not. He did interrupt her but I thought we had cleared the floor for Andrea and a couple of us encouraged her to continue. We were disappointed when she decided to hang up. She did offer to talk to any of us in a private phone conversation and I had a long conversation with her the next day.I don't think anyone is defending sexism. I understand Dave's point about women being oppressed by patriarchy but when someone writes an open letter and then it is used as evidence to remove a Co Chair from office I think there needs to be more than he said she said presented for proof. Doesn't that open the door for anyone to make a claim like this and the accused person being tried, convicted, and sentenced without question? I'm sure the conversations on these lists can be quite intense and I'm sure there are heated exchanges on all sides so how can anyone make a judgement one way or the other without seeing the ENTIRE conversation from start to finish? And as for the screen shots I didn't see anything that could be called "overwhelming evidence" of anything. Maybe that's why they weren't included in the repost of the proposal. This is serious business folks and public record and it threatens to ruin Bill's reputation so in my opinion there should be indisputable evidence of all of these accusations.I believe that a response of Block means that the proposal goes to a vote immediately. So now that we have another chance to impeach a Co Chair let's get this witch hunt over with so we can get back to the business of the Green Party especially supporting our candidates.Kevin

September 4, 2016 at 8:08 pm in reply to: Proposal 001-16: Reject the Urban Camping Bans — UPDATED #1248Kevin Alumbaugh
MemberAgree. What a pathetic non-solution camping bans are to homelessness. Is this the best that elected city council members can come up with? Just go somewhere else so we can pretend you don't exist. Where are they supposed to go? Camping bans shift the burden of dealing with the homeless epidemic to local police departments who are not trained to be social workers. Most of the homeless are innocent victims of the recent economic crisis and they will be the last segment of society to recover from it. A high percentage of them are also in need of treatment for mental illness. Interesting that there was money to bail out the banks and financial institutions but there was no money for the most vulnerable in our society. Why do city governments and police departments even have jurisdiction over public spaces like parks other than to provide for public safety? Public spaces should be like national parks. Citizens should be allowed to camp anywhere they choose within them or conduct ongoing protests with impunity unlike the Occupy encampments that were eventually shut down brutally by the police state. Rather than having the option of sweeping them under the rug as an inconvenient truth there should be tent cities in our parks to remind all of us of our failure to deal with the problem. Then maybe local governments would be more likely to come up with practical alternatives such as low income housing and safe temporary shelters on public land. How about a tax on stock transactions or a dividend tax on corporate profits to benefit the homeless in the communities where their headquarters are located?

MemberAGREE! STRONGLY! As we saw with the legalization of marijuana in our great state the authors of the ballot initiative did the best job they could to outline a workable law. After the voters approved it the state legislature went to work implementing it and did a lot of fine tuning to cover many concerns such as proximity of dispensaries to schools, dispensary workers cannot have criminal records, marijuana cannot be smoked in public places, etc. They did a great job (except possibly for the high tax rate for recreational pot) and IT'S WORKING! I think it is safe to say that if we in Colorado once again pave the way for the rest of the country to adopt universal health care the state legislature will tweak and fine tune it to make it a reality.Kevin AlumbaughGreater Boulder Green Party

MemberI Agree…finally after I found my password to the forum. Sorry for the late reply but we are in a bit of disarray after a remodel. Great to have Mesa County back!

MemberAgreeMost European countries are providing public space for refugees from the Middle East and other war torn parts of the world and making efforts to assimilate them into their societies. In the U.S. we not only discard our own economic refugees we make it illegal to be homeless. The next thing you know corporations will be buying the naming rights to our parks and putting their logos up in neon lights. Maybe they wouldn't mind homeless people sleeping in parks if they had tents with corporate logos on them. Kevin AlumbaughGreater Boulder Green Party

MemberI would agree to sponsor this proposal. Sorry it languished in my inbox which runneth over. I would also vote agree. Parks are public land which should be accessible to the public for recreation, relaxation, and sleeping in if necessary. Camping bans are just a way to sweep a problem under the rug. If we see our parks full of homeless citizens with no alternative place to sleep maybe we'll realize that there is a serious problem in the "richest country on Earth" which needs to be addressed. Also many homeless shelters are over crowded and can be dangerous for those who are vulnerable.Kevin AlumbaughGreater Boulder Green Party

MemberI understand Laura. Yes I would be interested in participating in a fund raising committee. I will try to find a new source for hats before the meeting and the committee can work on the t shirt design.Kevin

MemberI would like to talk about a merchandise page on the website and what we would like to make available. I have some t shirts that I had made several years ago and there was discussion about a new t shirt design a couple of years ago. I will bring the shirts I have so maybe we can sell a few to get some money for the next batch. We're out of hats but I can bring one from the last batch. Bumper stickers? Buttons?I'm sure I can get Liz to ad the page but we should talk about how we want it to look and if we are going to allocate some funds to make more merch.Kevin Alumbaugh
